FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our holistic services.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that focuses on supporting the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance. Rather than simply suppressing symptoms, naturopathic doctors (NDs) aim to identify and treat the root cause of illness while considering the whole person: body, mind, lifestyle, and environment.

Naturopathic medicine combines modern tools and science-based solutions with traditional, natural therapies like nutrition, herbal medicine, homeopathy, physical medicine, and lifestyle counseling. It’s grounded in six core principles, including treating the root cause, doing no harm, educating patients, and focusing on prevention.

At LIV Wellness, we utilize naturopathic medicine by providing personalized care plans that may include functional assessments, targeted supplementation, and sustainable changes in diet and lifestyle. The goal is not just to help you feel better, but to help you understand your health more deeply, prevent future issues, and support long-term healing from the inside out.

Whether you’re dealing with chronic symptoms, hormonal imbalances, digestive concerns, or simply want a more proactive and natural approach to your wellness, naturopathic medicine offers a comprehensive, individualized path to healing.

How is Naturopathic Medicine and Functional Medicine different?

Functional medicine evolved from the foundational principles of naturopathy and is now widely recognized as a science-informed, systems-based approach to health. It integrates the latest research on how genetics, environment, and lifestyle interact to influence disease and vitality. Both naturopathic and functional medicine share the same goal: to prevent disease, restore balance, and help patients live with greater energy, clarity, and long-term wellness.

How are Naturopathic Doctors different from conventional doctors like MDs or DOs?

Licensed naturopathic doctors (NDs) complete a rigorous, four-year medical program at an accredited naturopathic medical school. Their education includes comprehensive training in basic and clinical sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and diagnosis + natural therapies like clinical nutrition, herbal medicine, physical medicine, homeopathy, and counseling.

NDs must complete over1,100 hours of supervised clinical training and pass national board exams to become licensed or registered in eligible states or provinces. Some go on to receive board certifications in areas like oncology, pediatrics or endocrinology.

While naturopathic doctors are trained to understand and speak the language of conventional medicine, their approach is distinct. NDs focus on uncovering and addressing the root causes of illness, using gentle, non-invasive therapies first and reserving pharmaceutical or surgical interventions when absolutely necessary. Prevention and patient education are central to their care, and appointments often allow for more time, deeper connection, and individualized support than conventional models typically provide. When choosing an ND, be sure they graduated from a CNME-accredited school, as only these professionals are eligible for licensure and board certification.

What training does Dr. Watkins have?

Dr. Olivia Watkins  a licensed naturopathic doctor with a strong foundation in both science and women's health. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Women’s Studies from Brenau University, and went on to complete her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine at Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (now Sonoran University of Health Sciences).

Dr. Watkins  completed a CNME-accredited, two-year residency in primary care and women’s health at Living Wellness Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Since 2018, she has worked in both clinical and non-clinical settings, offering naturopathic primary care, education, and consulting with a focus on holistic, root-cause healing.

She is passionate about supporting individuals who are seeking a more personalized, integrative path to wellness. In addition to her clinical work, she enjoys teaching and empowering others through speaking engagements and wellness consulting.

Can you be my primary care doctor?

No, I do not serve as a primary care provider.

While I am trained in primary care medicine, my current role is focused on health consulting and naturopathic wellness coaching. I strongly encourage all clients to maintain a relationship with a licensed primary care physician for routine medical care, screenings, and urgent needs. Additionally, because naturopathic licensure is not recognized in the state of Georgia, I do not practice medicine or diagnose or treat disease in this state.

Do you accept Insurance?

LIV Wellness does not accept insurance, including Medicare or Medicaid. While we understand this may present a financial challenge for some, many of our clients find that stepping outside the traditional insurance model is a worthwhile investment in their health.

The good news is that by not billing insurance, we’re able to offer more comprehensive support, free from time constraints, coding limitations, and restrictions on the types of advanced testing we can recommend. This allows us to spend more time with you, dive deeper into your health concerns, and offer personalized, root-cause solutions that aren't possible in most conventional settings.

Our clients often share that they finally received the clarity and support they had been searching for, precisely because we’re able to work outside of those limitations

Do you offer individual visits or just programs?

True healing takes time and a structured approach allows Dr. Watkins to partner with you more effectively, using regular follow-ups to monitor progress, adjust strategies, and create lasting change. From a clinical and research perspective, consistent follow-up is essential for achieving meaningful, long-term health outcomes.

While we recommend the Whole Health Reset Program as the ideal starting point for most clients, we understand that each journey is unique. For those seeking a more flexible pace, we offer Foundations by LIV which is a less intensive option that provides the same expert guidance and in-depth assessment, but with fewer follow-ups and space to move at your own pace.

Do you only work with women?

We specialize in women’s health however we also work with men and children on a case by case basis.

Do you offer in-person and virtual visits?

Currently, all appointments are held virtually to provide convenient, flexible care. However, we’re excited to share that we’re transitioning into a new space and plan to begin offering in-person visits by the end of 2025.

Stay tuned for updates!

Do you work with clients outside of Georgia?

Yes!

Since LIV Wellness operates as a naturopathic consulting and coaching practice, we are able to accept new clients nationwide and internationally. If you have access to the internet, we can support you wherever you are.

How long does it take to see results?

The timeline for seeing results varies from person to person and depends on the specific health goals and challenges being addressed. In most cases, clients notice improvements within a few weeks, and more substantial changes occur over a few months.
